Hi Allison. Great to hear from you. Grammy's here and she was just catching me up on you guys. I'll say this, she's proud of you as a mother. You've taken on a lot. May God continue to give you the wisdom and strength you need. You're having a bigger impact than you think. Lots of love, Gail

As I think of the five daughters I've raised I wish that I would have studied the lives and examples of women, like the ones you mentioned in this post, with much more diligence.

I think parenting is the only job you're truly prepared for once the children are all grown. (That's why it's so important to seek the counsel from those who have already walked that road.)

My daughters are adults now and two are already mothers themselves. The most beautiful and miraculous thing of all is that each of them has "turned out all right," despite stumbling my way through parenting. God's grace truly covers multitude of sins.

When I look at my daughters, especially when they are dealing with children, I'm amazed at the love and wisdom with which they parent, nanny, or aunt-y. I'm in awe as I watch them in action. Each one of them has beautifully surpassed the example I gave them. I pray every generation will do the same.

I'll finish with this prayer that I've prayed for my each of the girls since the day they were born and one which I pray for my grandchildren now:

"Lord, raise my children to become mighty [men and] women of God who accomplish great things for Your Kingdom. Help them to love you with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength and their neighbor as themselves." (Luke 10:27)

Thank you for this post, Joel. May God richly bless all that your hands find to do.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. (3 John 1:4)

The past is a funny thing, and I find it easy to be embarrassed by earlier times and ideas. It's pretty foolish. The truth is that there is so much in my formative periods for which to be grateful.

Love this Joel. There are certain songs that bring back not just memories, but entire periods of my life. My books will one day do the same (since I started note-taking in the margins a couple years back).
