I have heard it speculated--by one more schooled in Scripture than myself--that the angels ascending and descending Jacob's ladder in Genesis 28 were his guardian angels, sent to protect and keep him on his journey, per God's promise. No reason, I suppose, to assume that God should be stingy about providing such assistance (cf., too, 2 Kings 6:17). I find the thought comforting . . . or convicting, depending on my behavior on a given day.

Great post again, Joel. I really like what you have to say. I think Psalm 34 is so great, especially because we sing it during our Liturgy.

By the way, I found your blog via your father-in-law, who I heard speak on Ancient Faith Radio. After I heard him speak, I checked out his blog and learned all about Thomas Nelson. And, as you know, he posts about his family and other people at Thomas Nelson who have blogs so I checked several of you guys out. (I also read Lindsey's blog and told her I liked hers a lot as well.) You all are so fortunate to work for such a wonderful company.

I look forward to future posts--especially on religious topics!
